Southern Boundary Wines is a New Zealand company with new attitudes towards the wine industry combined with 30 years of family tradition of making premium estate grown wines.

Our brands are the iconic Waipara Springs and Waipara Downs, The Springs and Jack's Canyon from the Waipara region and Bascand Estate and Home Creek from Marlborough. Across these two world class wine producing regions we have a stunning range that showcases the best New Zealand has to offer.

Andrew Moore is the CEO and Export Manager and has an active involvement in all aspects of the company.  Scotty Berry is the Production Manager. Responsible for winemaking is Frank Manifold who has wide experience both overseas and locally.  Brian Henshaw works in the winery in production, packaging and despatch.

Waipara Springs

Waipara Springs was first established by the Moore and the Grant families in 1989.  Bruce and Jill Moore have lived on the property for many years and together planted the first grape vines at Waipara Springs in 1982.

The Waipara Springs Estate Vineyard from which Premo wines are solely sourced has a terroir that renders wines totally unique. Derived from a prehistoric lakebed at the centre of the Waipara Valley floor the vineyard soils are a rich blend of clay and limestone.

With vines sheltered from the prevailing easterly winds by the Teviotdale range, high midsummer heat combined with relatively low rainfall during the growing season along with long warm days and cold nights during harvest provide near perfect conditions for high quality fruit.

After evaluation of each block, labour intensive canopy manipulation is carried in accordance to the style of wine each parcel contributes to the overall blend.

Covering an area of 26 hectares, the Waipara Springs Estate Vineyard contains some of the oldest own rooted Mendoza clone Chardonnay in New Zealand, a mixture of Pinot noir clones predominantly 10/5 and mass selections of Riesling and Sauvignon blanc.

Waipara Downs

Established in 1986, Waipara Downs is an ultra premium, high demand, low production wine from the heart of Waipara. The first plantings by Ruth and Keith Berry were of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The first commercial vintage was produced in 1991. During 1994 a winery was built, which over the years has expanded, and in 2001 son Scott Berry returned from a year in Sancerre, France to take over as Winemaker. Scott has since become an award winning winemaker within Waipara and New Zealand. The Waipara Downs range now includes Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer.

Bascand Estate

Bascand Estate was first established on prime Marlborough land – an award winning wine region renowned for its Sauvignon Blanc. Bascand Estate then purchased a share in a further 25 hectares of outstanding grape-producing land in Waipara, North Canterbury to produce Riesling and Pinot Noir from established vines well suited to the Waipara climate and limestone soils. The vineyards are certified as sustainable in keeping with our philosophy of looking after the earth and environment around us and this flows into our wines.

Jack's Canyon

Jack's Canyon is named after a breathtaking Waipara landmark adjacent to our winery. A natural waterway was diverted 50 years ago to prevent flooding of farmland and that small diversion is now a 60 metre canyon. A fence still spans the divide. Home Creek

Home Creek runs through the middle of our vineyard and is the life blood of our vines. It fills our dams every winter which we use to irrigate the grapes throughout our long hot summers. The Home Creek label can be found in parts of Asia and Ireland. - www.waiparasprings.co.nz/home_creek
