Lifted aromatics displaying dark berry fruits, vanilla and a hint of savoury character. This wine is elegant in structure showing complex fine grained silky tannins and displays great balance, length and concentration. Food: Delicate red meats and game meats, particularly duck.
The 2012 (2.5*), grown at two sites – Waipara Springs and Waipara Downs – was made in a 'fruit-forward' style. It has fullish, slightly developed colour, with mouthfilling body, spicy, herbal flavours and a smooth finish. The 2013 vintage (3.5*), matured in a 50:50 split of tanks and French oak barrels (10 per cent new), is ruby-hued, mouthfilling and fragrant, with good depth of plum, spice, herb and nut flavours, considerable complexity and lots of drink-young appeal.
